Colorado has three parks that presently offer cabins, and yurts. There are cabins available at State Forest State Park, including yurts. Steamboat Lake and Sylvan Lake State Parks provide cabins, but no yurts.

Your vacation is easy at this park, just open the cabin door, toss in your sleeping bag, and head out for a peaceful walk by the lake or cross-country ski along the trails.
Built in 1998, the five 12’ x 12’ cabins provide simple necessities, an electric heater, beds with mattresses, a small refrigerator and coffeepot for early morning breeze. The cabins, nestle in the popular park, located in N Colorado, and feature large windows for mountain views and lake views. The park is open year around. There is premier fishing, hunting and boating in the area. Anglers can catch rainbow and cutthroat trout from the lake, and occasionally brown trout. Hunting, including big game and waterfowl is permitted during certain seasons.
There are great hiking trails in the part that also wind through Routt National Forest. Consider mountain biking in summer and four wheeling. A concessionaire provides horseback riding in the summer and guided snowmobile tours in the winter. Winter comes alive with ice fishing, cross-country skiing and access to 60 miles of premier snowmobiling trails. Track cross-country trails were completed in 1999. Maps are available for a nominal charge.
You can drive right up to the cabins. Showers and flush toilets are available from May through October, with vault toilets only in the winter months. No cooking allowed inside the cabin, except coffeepots, a picnic table and fire ring and campsite just are outside the cabins. In the winter, a cook stove may be used on the four-foot porch.
Each cabin rents for $45 per night for single or double occupancy, and an additional $5 for each additional person. Maximum occupancy is six persons. A daily or annual State Parks Vehicle Pass is required. The daily vehicle pass is $4, and an annual pass is $40.

New cabins will be constructed in time for the summer season at this park, located 16 miles S of Eagle, Colorado, at Sylvan Lake.
Bring a sleeping bag, linens and food. A campfire ring and picnic table are outside each cabin. No cooking inside. Bathrooms with hot showers are available from May through September. Vault toilets other times of the year.
The 9 drive in-cabins are a minimum 16’ x 20’ feet and furnished with beds to sleep 4-6 persons. A propane heater is provided.
Sylvan Lake State Park is a picturesque 40-acre lake serving as the scenic gateway to the surrounding White River National Forest. Located at an elevation of 8,500 feet in the montane forest of the Rocky Mountains, it is a haven for campers, canoers, picnickers, photographers and hikers, and a base camp for big game hunting in season. Anglers enjoy the solitude of trout fishing from non-motorized boats or with electric motors.
There are several miles of outstanding hiking and mountain biking trails surrounding White River National Forest. A trail around the lakeshore provides fishing access and a relaxing walk surrounds the peace and quiet. Topo maps are available from the Eagle Tour Information Center at 970/328-6464.
Winter enthusiasts will enjoy ice fishing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Snowmobile tours are available from tour operators in Eagle. Bring a cook stove for winter cooking.
Rates: Range from $30 per night, plus $5 for every person over 12, or $10 for the one cabin with a shower. A daily State Parks Vehicle Pass is required.
COLORADO STATE FOREST STATE PARK

This is a rugged wilderness state park with over 70,700 acres of mountainous backcountry, with stretches of forest, jagged peaks and pristine alpine lakes. Camp, hike, fish and hunt in unspoiled nature. The park is only 2 hours from Fort Collins on Colorado Highway 14, pass the famous Sleeping Elephant Mountain and over the beautiful Cameron Pass to the town of Gould.
Cabins: The park boasts 7 mountain cabins available for rent year around. The cabins are rustic, but charming, equipped with woodburning stove, wooden table, benches and bunkbeds with mattresses. Outside there are fire grills and picnic tables. There is no electricity running water, blankets or bedding. Bring your own. Six cabins are located on the shore of North Michigan Reservoir on the S end of the forest. Winter visitors would expect difficult road conditions, particularly the last two miles. Winter conditions can be extreme with sub-zero weather and 6 feet of snow.
AGNES CABIN
This cabin is S of Colorado Hwy 14 on the W side of Cameron Pass. The access road is marked clearly along the highway. The cabin sleeps 6 and is accessible over a rough road in summer, but in winter visitors must ski in. This two mile trip is steep, finishing t 10,800 feet and is considered difficult. The cabin rents for $35 on weekends and holidays and $30 other times of the year. Visitors skiing or snowmobiling into the Lake Agnes area are required to purchase an individual Daily Parks Pass.
MICHIGAN CABINS 1 &2
They have a maximum capacity of 15 persons. These cabins rent for $50 a night on Friday and Saturday and holidays and $30 other times.
MICHIGAN CABINS 2, 4, 5, 6
These cabins have a maximum capacity of 6 persons These cabins rent for $35 on weekends and holidays and $30 other times. Maximum stay is two weeks in any 45 day period. All vehicles entering the park must have a valid parks pass.
NEVER SUMMER NORDIC YURTS

Each yurt is set off by itself, high in the mountains of the Colorado State Forest State Park, near Walden. Views of nearby peaks are unsurpassed. The Medicine Bow Range and the Never Summer Range form a 12,900 foot backdrop to a seemingly unlimited trail system that links old logging roads, 4WD trails and hiking trails. Whether you ski, hike or bike to the yurts, prepare to see moose, elk, deer and red tail hawks and coyote.
The operator offers the yurts to groups or individuals. Most individuals book 2 or 3-night trips. The company also guides 2-3 day ski tours. All guides are members of the Professional Ski Instructors of America. This is Colorado’s first yurt system and has been operating since 1986.

These are state-of-the-art yurts. Each is waterproofed and has windows, central skylight, solid wood floors, bunk beds and foam mattresses, cookstove, wood stove, lantern, utensils, firewood. Bring your own skis and equipment.GRASS CREEK YURT
Summer: .25 mile gain; winter 1 mile gain. The yurt has a spectacular scenery in a quiet, isolated valley that makes it one of the most favorite yurts. Nearby is North Michigan Reservoir, great for fishing. There is an easy ski-in and gentle terrain for beginners to get to the yurt, Great tele turns on Larry’s Run. The yurt sleeps 5-7.
RUBY JEWEL YURT
You can drive a 4Wd drive up to the yurt in summer or it is a 1.5 mile elevation gain, in winter it is a 2.5 mile gain. The yurt is located halfway to Jewel Lake, nestled in a dense grove of lodgepole pine. Unlimited access to high alpine bowls and exciting ridges for skillful skiers, but there is plenty of easy skiing near the yurt. Sleeps 5-7.
NORTH FORK CANADIAN YURT
During the summer, there is a 1.5 mile gain and winter it is slightly higher gain. This is a remote and peaceful setting yurt, with a great view of the Never Summer Mountains, and offers your best chance of seeing a moose. This is an ideal base camp for hiking, biking, skiing or horseback riding to Kelly Lake. Sleeps 5-7.
DANCING MOOSE YURT
During the summer there is a easy drive up to the yurt. In winter there is a 0.25 mile gain. This yurt has an impressive view of Clark Peak, with Bull Mountain to explore as your backyard. The location is central in the park and makes driving to any trailhead easy, and the short ski in makes it a great beginner yurt. With the help of friends, this yurt is also wheelchair accessible. Sleeps 9-10.
LOWER MONTGOMERY PASS
During the summer there is a 1.1 mile gain or easy access with a 4WD. In the winter the gain is 2.8 mile gain. This yurt shares a site with Upper Montgomery Pass Yurt, about halfway up the W side of Montgomery Pass. The best view in the park of Diamond Peak, Mokhu Crags, Mt. Richtoffen and Seven Utes is fright from the yurt deck. Recommended for intermediate and advanced skiers. Sleeps 6-7.
UPPER MONTGOMERY PASS
During the summer there is a 1.1 mile elevation gain or easy access by 4WD. In the winter the gain is 2.8 miles.
This yurt shares a site with lower Montgomery Pass Yurt, about halfway up the W side of Montgomery Pass. Views of the Zirkels and the Medicine Bows with fantastic sunsets from the yurt. Recommended for intermediate and advanced skiers. Sleeps 5-7.
