All activities are available to the visitor at the Georgia State Parks. The parks offer daily rates at the cabins.

Cottages: All cottages are fully equipped for housekeeping, including stove and refrigerator, with all necessary cooking and serving facilities, linen, and blankets. Bring your own dishwashing detergent and food. All cottages have heat and AC.

Reservations: All cottages are reserved through the Reservation Resource Center at 800/864-7275 or 770/389-7275 in metro Atlanta. Reservations accepted for rental on an 11-month advance notice. No reservation is confirmed until a deposit is received. A one night deposit is required and is due seven days from making the reservation. Make checks payable to Reservation Resource. Deposit not received within 7 days will be cancelled.

Minimum Stay: Generally, parks require a 2-night minimum with advance reservations; however parks may accept 1-night stays on a walk-in basis. Some parks require a one-week minimum from June 1- Labor Day, however, shorter stays are allowed for reservations made less than 30 days prior to arrival. Note: A 3-night minimum is required for Memorial Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving weekends.

Registration: Register at Park Office or check-in station upon arrival. Check-in is 4 pm-10 pm. Check-out is 11 am. Reservation confirmation slip and balance of payment must be presented when checking in. Most park gates are locked at 10 p.m. Reservations will be held until 10 pm on the scheduled arrival date. Both the reservation and the deposit fee are forfeited if the cottage guest has not checked in by 10 pm on the date of arrival.. A late check-out fee will be charged unless an extension is permitted by the Park Office. An extension can be granted only when others are not waiting for a cottage.

Refunds: The deposit will be refunded if a minimum of 72 hours notice is given to the park, however a $10 per unit cancellation fee will be deducted from the deposit. If a deposit was paid by check, the deposit receipt must be returned to the Reservation Resource Center for a refund. Any unused portion of a reservaiton period can be refunded only if the minimum occupancy has been satisfied.

Occupancy limitations: Occupancy of a cottage is limited to 14 nights. A cottage may not be used overnight to accommodate more than its normal bed capacity. Maximum occupancy of cottages may vary from park to park.

Group Use: Small youth groups such as scouts or church groups may occupy a single cottage in a park’s off season provided the group is properly chaperoned and the capacity of the cottage is not exceeded. An adult must accompany all unmarried cottage guests under 18 years of age.

Pets: Not allowed in cottages or cottage areas. No kennels available in any perk.

Firewood: None is provided, but some parks sell firewood.

Cottages should be left in the same condition as found. Dishes and cookware should be washed and put away. Equipment, furnishings or linens may not be carried outside the cottage. Occupants charged for damages.


LODGES:

The lodges vary in size from 30-100 guest rooms, with special features such as sleeping lofts, suites with separate bedrooms and porches. ADA accessible and non-smoking rooms ares are available.

Guest Rooms: have TVs, telephones, and individual climate controls. A limited number of port-a-cribs are available, there are no rollaway beds or cots.

Reservations: See cottage reservations. All rules also apply to lodges.

Capacity: Rooms sleep from 4-6 in double loft rooms.

Group functions: Each lodge has a professionally trained staff to handle all needs.

Other Rules: all other rules for check-in and out, pets ,etc. as explained in cottages, apply to the lodges.

AMICALOLA FALLS STATE PARK and Lodge

The park is 16 miles NW of Dawsonville, via GA 183. The park gets its name from the Cherokee word for "tumbling water," an appropriate name for the 729-foot falls, the highest in Georgia. The 8-mile approach leads from the falls to Springer Mountain, trailhead of the S end of the 2,150-mile Appalachian Trail, running from Georgia to Maine. The park offers 700 acres for hiking and walking, and there is fishing, swimming and boating on the 5-acre lake. Nearby is the New Echota State Historic Site. There are 15 cottages in the park.

BLACK ROCK MOUNTAIN STATE PARK

Located 3 miles N of Clayton, via US 441, this park is named for the humped shoulders, which are formed by a cliff of dark granite. At an elevation of 3,600 feet, this is the highest park in the state. Talmadge Trail runs from the main highway at Mountain City to the top of the mountain for views of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina. The 1,500-acre park has an 18-acre lake, mountain cultural programs, and hiking on the Tennessee Rock Trail, Waterfall Trail and James Edmond’s Trail. There are 10 cottages in the park.

CLOUDLAND CANYON STATE PARK

Located 25 miles NW of Lafayette, off GA 136, and situated on the W edge of Lookout Mountain, this park is one of the most scenic in the state. The park straddles a deep gorge cut by Sitton Gulch Creek, with the elevation ranging from 800 to 1,800 feet. The 2,120-acre park has 6 miles of backcountry trails, tennis courts, swimming pool, a winterized group shelter and a 40-bed group camp. There are 16 cottages in the park.

FORT MOUNTAIN STATE PARK

Located 7 miles SE of Chatsworth, via GA 52, Fort Mountain gets its name from the ancient rock wall that is over 855 feet long, on the highest point of the park. The wall is said to be built by Indians as a fortification against other hostile tribes. Located in the Chattahoochee National Forest, close to the Cohutta Wilderness Area, the park offers 2,526 acres of recreational land, and 12 miles of trails. The swimming beach has a bathhouse. Rent paddleboats, canoes and boats at the lake, or play miniature golf. There are 15 cottages in the park.

UNICOI STATE PARK and Lodge

This park is nestled in N Georgia, 2 miles from the alpine village of Helen. There are 12 miles of trails, mountain cultural programs and a swimming beach with bathhouse. The 53-acre lake offers fishing and boating. Nearby is the Georgia Mountain Fair and Anna Ruby Falls. Visit the Oktoberfest in Helen in the fall. The 100-room lodge has a conference center, meeting rooms and restaurant. There are 3 clusters of 20 rooms each, overlooking the forest. Each room has 2 twin beds, or 2 double beds or loft. All have phone, AC and heat. The focal point of the lodge is the spacious Commons Room fireplace. Nearby are the 30 cottages.

VOGEL STATE PARK

This mountain park is one of the oldest and most popular of Georgia parks, and is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains within the Chattahoochee National Forest. The park is steeped in legends of buried gold and Indian battles. Be sure to visit nearby Dahlonega Gold Museum. Driving from the S you will pass through "Neel’s Pass," a natural mountain pass near Brasstown Bald, the highest point in the state. The park has 17 miles of hiking trails, and is the gateway to the Appalachian Trail. Popular music programs are offered in the summer. The swimming beach has a bathhouse, and there are pedal boat rentals at the 20-acre lake. The park offers 36 cottages.

ELIJAH CLARK STATE PARK

This lake park is located 7 miles NE of Lincolnton, off US 278. The main feature of this park is Clark Hill Reservoir, named for a frontiersman and war hero. Visit the museum displays circa 1780, or take a weekend tour of the reconstructed log cabin. The 447-acre park has miniature golf, boating and fishing on the 70,000-acre lake, and a bathhouse at the beach. There are 20 cottages.

FLORENCE MARINA STATE PARK

Located 4 miles S of Omaha on Route 39C, this park is on Lake Walter F. George on the Chattahoochee River, the perfect place for water sports. There was once a flourishing river town in the area, built after the Creek Indians burned nearby Roanoke in 1836. The 147-acre park has 2 tennis courts, a marina with 75 boat slips, boat rentals, water skiing, fishing, tennis, pool, and camp store. There are 11 cottages in the park.

Nearby attractions include Providence Canyon State Park, Kolomoki Mounds State Park and a Frontier Village dating to 1814. Stay in one of the 5 cottages.

This park is 12 miles N of I-20, Exit No. 60. The park gets its name from Mistletoe Junction, a local area named because of the large growth of mistletoe in the area. Located on Clark Hill Reservoir, the park offers a swimming beach, fishing in the 76,000-acre lake, and 3 boat ramps. Rent bicycles, or hike on 5 miles of trail. The park is near Robert Tombs State Historic Site and the Elijah Clark State Park. There are 10 cottages in the park.

RED TOP MOUNTAIN STATE PARK and Lodge

The park is 1-1/2 mile E of I-75, Red Top Exit, and is named for the rich red earth color of the soil with high iron content. The area once was an important mining area. The park is on a 1,726-acre peninsula along Lake Allatoona, great for swimming, boating and fishing. The boat marina has all the things you need for fishing. Also at the park are tennis courts, bathhouse at the beach, miniature golf, a 7-mile nature trail, and a camp store. The park features 18 cottages

SEMINOLE STATE PARK

This park, located 16 miles S of Donaldsonville, via GA 39, is in a quiet area on beautiful Lake Seminole, known for excellent sport fishing. The 37,500-acre lake is shallow, but has lime sink ponds and cool clear water with a variety of fish. The park is near one of the largest wildlife management areas in Georgia, with deer and duck hunting. Also nearby is Kolomoki Mounds State Park. Seminole State Park features 2 fishing docks, 3 boat ramps, family and group shelters, Kelly’s Marina, and a swimming beach. There are 10 cottages in the park.

TUGALOO STATE PARK

Located 6 miles N of Lavonia, off GA 328, this park is situated on a rugged peninsula, which juts into Hartwell Reservoir. Fishing is excellent year around on the reservoir. The Tugaloo name comes from the local Indian dialect for the river that once flowed freely near the park before the Hartwell Dam was constructed. The park has bicycling and water sports, and frequent mountain music programs. The swimming beach has a bathhouse, miniature golf, tennis, hiking trails, 2 fishing ramps and 9 boat ramps. The 20 cottages are open for guests.

MIDDLE GEORGIA PARKS:

The park is 1 mile S of Winder, via GA 81. Fort Yargo is an historic park featuring old log forts and a blockhouse built in 1792 by settlers for protection against the Creek and Cherokee Indians. Bullet holes made from guns of heavy caliber can still be seen in the logs. A special facility is located at the park for the handicapped. Enjoy the 360-acre lake and the beach at the 1,850-acre park, with miniature golf, tennis, and hiking. Canoe and pedal boat rentals are available. Visit nearby Stone Mountain Park, with fantastic murals of southern Civil War heroes. The park has 3 cottages and a 250-capacity group camp.

The park is 1 mile S of Winder, via GA 81. This is a park which is completely handicapped accessible, with pool and beach swimming, fishing, pioneer camping, group shelter, museum, boat, canoe, and paddleboat rentals, hiking trails. There are 3 handicapped accessible cottages in the park.


F.D. ROOSEVELT STATE PARK

The 10,000-acre park is on Pine Mountain, 5 miles SE of Pine Mountain, on GA 190. U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, seeking a place for relaxation after becoming stricken with polio in 1923, traveled to Warm Springs and built the Little White House overlooking a valley below. The house still remains at Warm Springs, within the park. The park also has a swimming pool, and 2 lakes with fishing and boating. Hike on the 23-mile Pine Mountain Trail. Visit the FDR Museum with displays of his life, and be sure to see the 12-minute movie, "FDR in Georgia." The 21 rental cabins are open for guests.

The park is located 2 miles N. of Rutledge, off US 278. The creek was named after the slave laborers who tilled the nearby fields in the summer. Now it has an 18-hole golf course, and horse stables and trails at the park. The area also features a swimming beach with bathhouse, museum, 2 lakes, boat and bicycle rentals. Hike on 17 miles of trails. Nearby is Oconee National Forest and Stone Mountain Park. There are 20 cottages in the park.

INDIAN SPRINGS STATE PARK

The park is 4 miles SE. of Jackson on GA 42. This is one of the oldest state parks in the U.S. The Creek Indians used the springs for centuries to heal their sick. Visitors can sample the spring water while staying at the park. The park has 523 acres of land, and a 105-acre lake for water sports, swimming beach and pedal boat rentals. Visit the museum with artifacts of the Indian lifestyle of Georgia. The Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge is nearby, as well as Dauset Trails and Oconee National Forest for nature hikes. There are 10 cottages at the park.

JOHN TANNER STATE PARK

The park is located 6 miles W of Carrollton, off GA Hwy. 16. Within the park is the largest sand beach of any Georgia park, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and relaxing. The Bluegrass Music Festival is held in May, and an arts and craft show in Sept. The lake has fishing and boating, with bicycle, canoe and pedal boat rentals and an exercise and nature trail. Nearby is Sweetwater Creek State Park. The motel features 6 cottage units. A group lodge is nearby, plus a group shelter and camp store.

GEORGIA VETERANS STATE PARK

This park, located 9 miles W of Cordele, via US 280, was established as a permanent memorial to U.S. veterans. Two museums are in the park: the indoor museum includes exhibits from the 18th century French and Indian War through Vietnam, and the outdoor museum displays planes and armaments from WWI to Vietnam. The 1,327-acre park has model airplane flying on a paved flying area; boating and water-skiing on 13,000-acre Lake Blackshear; and a beach and swimming pool. Annual events include Memorial Day and Veterans Day activities. Nearby is Andersonville Historic Site, a prisoner of war camp during the Civil War, and Providence Canyon State Park. There is a special pioneer and group camp; the group shelter is winterized. There are 10 cottages in the park.

LITTLE OCMULGEE STATE PARK and Lodge

The park is 2 miles N of McRae, via US 319, 441. The CCC and National Park Service created this park in the 1930’s along the Little Ocmulgee River. Now you can enjoy an 18-hole golf course, 265-acre lake with boating and water skiing, swimming pool, and tennis courts. There are rental boats and canoes at the lake. The park has 1 group camp called the Pioneer Camp and a new 30-room lodge and conference center which opened in 1988. The one group shelter is for large groups and the 10 cottages are for the family vacationers.

MAGNOLIA SPRINGS STATE PARK

The park is 5 miles N of Millen, via US 25, and is noted for the crystal clear springs that pump 9 million gallons of water a day into the lake. During the Civil War the site was called Camp Lawton and was used as a prison camp. Near the park is the Millen National Fish Hatchery with self-guided tours. The park features a boating area, water sports, hiking, playgrounds, and 2 swimming pools. Canoe the Ogeechee River from April through the summer. There are 5 vacation cottages and a 70-capacity group camp.

STEPHEN C. FOSTER STATE PARK

The park is 18 miles NE of Fargo, via GA 177, and is named after the noted American composer. It is situated on Jones Island, one of many entrances to the famed Okefenokee Swamp. Enjoy boat tours or paddle your own rented canoe through the lush vegetation of the swamp. Over 223 species of birds, 41 species of mammals and 54 different reptiles and amphibians make the swamp home. Walk on elevated boardwalks. The park has education programs year around on the natural areas of the swamp and the Suwanee River. Special events include the Okefenokee Birding, and the Man in the Swamp program in November. The park has 9 cottages and a camp store.
